The Lion and The Hare

Once upon a time, a fierce lion ruled the jungle. Every day, he hunted and killed many animals.

Terrified, the animals begged him, “Please, don’t kill all of us. We will send one animal to you daily as your food.”

The lion agreed. From then on, the animals took turns going to him.

One day, it was the turn of a clever little hare. He moved slowly, deliberately reaching the lion very late.

The angry lion roared, “Why are you so late?”

The hare bowed politely. “Oh mighty king, I was coming quickly, but another lion stopped me. He said he is the true ruler of this jungle.”

The lion growled, “What? Another lion? Take me to him immediately!”

The hare led the lion to a deep well. Pointing inside, he whispered, “Look, he lives there.”

The lion peered into the well and saw his own reflection in the water. Thinking it was his rival, he roared furiously. The reflection roared back.

Enraged, the lion leapt in to fight, only to drown in the deep water.

The clever hare hopped away, smiling, and shared the news with the other animals. From that day on, they lived in peace.
